FRUIT BODY: 1-3cm wide (per fruit body). Whenever you see a patch of burnt Gorse then have a look for this species. The individual fruit bodies have a short stalk with a sub-spherical head that begins reddish-brown before eventually turning black. The surface of the head is finely pimpled. GILLS/PORES: N/A. FLESH: Brittle, black to grey with a silvery sheen. SPORES: Black, ellipsoid, uniseriate. HABITAT: On dead, burnt wood of Gorse and occasionally on burnt Oak. SEASON: Occasional. Throughout the year. EDIBILITY: Inedible. |
